United Nations Commission on Human Rights

Agenda: Khmer Rouge

Greetings Delegates,

Welcome to the Historic United Nations Commission on Human Rights at Aravali Model United Nations, 2018!

This year, at AMUN, we are simulating a Historic UNCHR that deals Khmer Rouge and the Pol Pot regime. The committee will be set in the year 1975; however, delegates must be aware of incidents that took place throughout Pol Pot’s reign. The agenda is one that can be seen in many lights – political, legal, humanitarian – and one that has the power to have huge implications on the region, as well as on the world.

As with any historic committee, delegates have the power to change the course of the events and literally re-write history. In this case, delegates could potentially save millions of lives and take down a tyrant and totalitarian leader.

This committee will be challenging, and delegates must be prepared to tackle an unnerving, tactical and powerful man – Pol Pot. The aim of the committee will be to remove this man from power and take down the Khmer Rouge regime before millions of lives are lost.

This committee requires each delegate to not only be well-versed with the agenda and events that unfolded during that time, but also put forth arguments and solutions that have sound foundations in logic and reason. The dais expects delegates to respond well to challenges, and lead the committee in a manner that not only ensures the interests of their own countries, but also upholds the collective peace security and safety of our world.

With that in mind, we wish you all the very best, and hope you have a great time at the Historic UNCHR.

Best Regards,

Tishya Ray and Srinwanti Debgupta (Chairpersons)

Shaurya Sinha (Vice-Chairperson)

Revanta Khanna (Rapporteur).
